The Cochrane Stroke Group has been a part of The Cochrane Collaboration since August 1993. The Cochrane Collaboration is an international organisation that aims to help people make well-informed decisions about healthcare by 'preparing, maintaining, and promoting the accessibility of systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions'. Cochrane systematic reviews bring together all the available evidence relating to a clearly formulated healthcare question for evaluation and synthesis, using predetermined criteria and explicit methods designed to limit bias. The Cochrane Stroke Group's Editorial Office is based in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, UK, and has been funded by the Chief Scientist Office (part of the Scottish Executive Health Department) since January 1994.
